As we head into the drier, summer months (finally!), please limit your use of water through the month of September. If you have an odd-numbered street address, water on odd-numbered days. If you have an even numbered address, water on even-numbered days. Remember that it may not be necessary to water on each of your designated days. Well established turf can survive up to three weeks without water!
A few water-wise tips:
- Water early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid losing up to 50 percent of your irrigation water to evaporation.
- Don’t water when rain is in the forecast.
- Mulch well around plants, bushes, trees, and flower beds to reduce evaporation.
- Avoid planting in the summer, when hotter temperatures mean plants need more water to become established.
- Landscape to suit our climate. Choose grass or plants that have low water requirements and will thrive. See the Clallam County Conservation District’s Native Plants page for more info.
